Dr Tukur Sani Jangebe, Chief Imam of Muslim Foundation Jumuat Mosque in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, has resigned.
He tendered his resignation after a video where he was seen praying for the success of Minister of State for Defence and the immediate past governor of the state, Bello Matawalle, went viral.
The video has since generated mixed reactions among political elites and religious communities in the state.
Last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja voided the election of Dauda Lawal as the governor of Zamfara State and ordered a rerun of the election in three local government areas of the state.
However, in a letter addressed to the mosque’s management, Jangebe said his decision to resign was to ensure peace and security of the mosque and its community.

He also assured his support and contribution to the development and success of the mosque and Islamic religion in the state and the country at large.
He added that the decision was related to the video clip in which he was seen praying for Bello Matawalle.
He said that he did similar prayers to the incumbent Governor Dauda Lawal when he was campaigning for the position.
