Experts celebrate World Rangers Day

In order to celebrate World Rangers Day, experts and environmentalists across the world have taken time to salute the men and women who risk their lives to protect the wildlife.

World Rangers Day is celebrated every July 31 to commemorate rangers killed/injured in the line of duty and to celebrate their work in protecting the world’s natural and cultural treasures.

An ambassador to ‘The Thin Green Line Foundation,’ a non-profit body dedicated to supporting the brave Park Rangers, Dr Jane Goodall, in her message saluted all the brave rangers, saying, many risked their lives because of the fight against poachers while others became disabled.

“I hope thousands of people around the world will give cause to honour you and the work you do and try to find a way to help you,” she said.

She commended some organisations that are raising funds for training of rangers and to support the family of fallen rangers, saying, she will continue to raise awareness and hopefully funds too.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in a message highlighted fighting crime, educating the public, and protecting the heritage, all in a day’s work for the rangers that safeguard earth’s most treasured locations.

“Every day, across the globe, men and women dedicate their lives to preserving some of our most beloved natural and cultural  heritage sites. On this World Rangers Day, we honour those who have fallen and celebrate those who courageously continue their duties, reflecting on the vital role they play in preserving the wonders of our planet.
