Kano: We’re yet to receive CTC of A/Court judgement – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it is yet to officially receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Appeal Court judgement which sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and declared the APC’s candidate, Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, as winner of the March 18 election in Kano State.

This followed the confusion that trailed the judgement following the release of the CTC on Tuesday, in which several rulings of the court appeared contradictory.

The CTC showed that the appellate court judgement which affirmed the lower court’s decision in favour of the APC candidate, Gawuna, was done in error, as it in another instance, upheld the election of Governor Abba Yusuf of the NNPP.

But addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, the APC National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdulkareem Abubakar Kana, said the pronouncement of the appellate court on the election affirming Gawuna’s victory was more important than the CTC.

“The most important is the judgement that was read,” he said.

Answering questions on the issue of CTC, which in one breath upheld the election of Governor Yusuf, the APC legal adviser said, “It was clearly and obviously an error. So I don’t think the mistake came from us, but as a party, we can only offer our own perspective on the matter.

“But, as far as my office is concerned, we have not received the official copy of the Certified True Copy of the judgement. But we will write and get a copy.

”If the copy that will be conveyed to us still contains this error, we will take steps eventually. What we will do and we have done right now, is to write a request demanding for the CTC.”

Similarly, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka said, “It was probably, a typographical error. The Appeal Court affirmed the will of the people as expressed by the people of Kano State by delivering judgement in favour of the APC candidate, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna.”
