About 600 people in Gbako, Katcha and Bida local government areas of Niger State have benefited from a medical outreach programme sponsored by a philanthropist, Malam Suleiman Umar, through Hakima Empowerment Centre.
The programme, which targeted indigent citizens across communities had beneficiaries treated for different ailments.
Our correspondent learnt that 150 youths were selected from the LGAs for training in skills that included bead making, production of soap and disinfectants, interior decoration, among others.
Speaking on the occasion of the flag-off, the programme sponsor, Suleiman, said he was disturbed by high rate of mortality of common but treatable illnesses across rural areas and the rising unemployment among the youths.
He said he decided to bring an NGO to broaden the scope of the interventions and touch more lives.
