Stop working with culprits’ families to deny rape victims justice, parents advised

Parents have been advised to work with their children and relatives who are victims of rape to get justice.

The National Ameerah of the Criterion, an association of Muslim business women and professionals, Alhaja Medina Akani, gave the advice in Ilọrin during their third international biennial conference with the theme: “Peace Building: The Role of Muslim Women in Our Society”.

Speaking with City $ Crime, she said, “It’s unfortunate that many parents whose children and relatives are victims of rape work with the families of the culprits to deny victims justice because of family ties or friendship.

“This should not be the case no matter how close agents of rape are to you. They should be made to face justice. That is Islam. To look the other way because of family ties or affiliations is to aid evil; which is what Islam or any religion abhors.”

She lamented that the clamour for girl child education and training was having negative effects on the boy child’s upbringing.

She said, “Many women no longer pay adequate attention to the training of the boy child.”

She, therefore, advocated peaceful coexistence and regretted the breakdown of family values as a result of poor child upbringing.
