Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen on the allegation of travelling outside the country without seeking permission from the state executive or legislature.

The suspended chairmen included Mubarak Ahmed, Rufai Sunusi and Umar Baffa of Birniwa, Gumel, and Yankwashi LGAs, said to have travelled to Rwanda without permission.

The House took the decision after the chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Aminu Zakari Tsubut, moved the motion for the suspension of the affected council chairmen.

He said that prior to their travel, the House had given an order for local government council chairmen in the state not to travel anywhere due to the preparation of the 2024 state appropriation bill and its presentation to the assembly by the state governor.

Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination and a nonchalant attitude towards the primary responsibility, which ought to be investigated and punished according to the law.

Meanwhile, the House has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the Majority Leader, Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the matter and report back to the House within four weeks for further action.
