2024: Edo South asked to leverage on population advantage

Ahead of the forthcoming 2024 governorship election in Edo state, a group, Concerned Edo South Leaders, (CESL), said the Edo South Senatorial district would leverage on its demographic strength to promote and enhance the relevance and influence of the district in the state and sub-national level.

The Convener of the group, former governors of the state, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and former governor Chief Lucky Igbinedion and Governor Godwin Obaseki as co-host said they are seeking to effectively reposition the district for the critical challenges that lie ahead of the State and the nation.

Addressing journalists at the end of the group’s meeting in Benin at the weekend, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, said they resolved to promote the collective interests of all the people of the Edo South within the context of the country’s prevailing political and economic realities.

“It was resolved that a broad-based consensus be engendered to enable us strategically leverage on the competitive advantage of our demographic strength and unique creative and productive potentials of our people in order to enhance the relevance and influence of our people in all spheres -national and sub-national.”

According to him, the concern of the group cut across political divide which include, to effectively reposition the people of Edo South for the critical challenges that lie ahead of the state and the nation and in promoting the interest of Edo South.

Oyegun said the group will engage and where feasible, cooperate with other similar groups within and outside Edo State to the extent that such engagement results in the promotion of its stated objective.

“As the platform for the aggregation of the interests of the people of Edo South, the meeting will hold on a regular basis in order to achieve our objective.”

Other leaders at the meeting include former Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor, DIG Parry Osayande (Rtd), HRH Enogie of Evbuobanosa, Prof. Greg Akenzua, Dr. Tonnie Iredia, Engr. Greg Obeifun, former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Elizabeth Ativie, Sen. Neda Imasuen, Market Women Leader, Blacky Ogiamien, and Dr. Victor Enoghama, amongst others.
