ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has discalosed that it had invested $350,000 (N281.7m) on different forms of interventions this year alone in Benue State.
Country Director of AAN, Andrew Mamedu, who made this known at the weekend during a press conference in Makurdi, also called for improved stakeholders’ coordination and funding to address recurring issues in Nigeria.
“We have invested $350,000 in all our interventions in Benue State in 2023 alone,” he said.
Mamedu who was represented by the AAN Humanitarian and Resilience Manager, David Habba, stressed the need for dedicated funding for flood response management and for the government to establish a multi-stakeholder coordination mechanism as well as put in place support for the community disaster response management committee.

He noted that the AAN’s latest intervention in consortium with Christian Aid was an urgent response to the needs of communities severely affected by recent flooding in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State and Jos North LGA of Plateau State through the StartFund to implement multipurpose cash assistance and distribution of non-food items.
The country director further added the distribution of dignity kits for women and girls as well as medical outreach programmes in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Mamedu disclosed that the emergency rapid response to flood-affected households in Agatu LGA on Thursday by AAN includes N45, 000 cash for food to each of the 650 households, among other relief items to the distressed households.
