Kangimi gallop over El-Amin to lift FirstBank Georgian Cup

Kingimi Polo Club on Sunday returned to winning ways after they defeated the illustrious El-Amin to win the 103-edition of the annual FirstBank-sponsored Georgian in Kaduna.

One significant thing about Kangimi’s victory is that it came 10 years after they last lifted the famous Georgian Cup trophy.

Kangimi defeated Mohammed Babangida-inspired El-Amim by 13-goals to 7-to come tops in the fiercely contested six Chukkers encounter.

The Adamu Atta side recovered from an early setback, courtesy of a goal from Mohammed Babangida to throw the vociferous spectators into wild jubilation.

The +18goal team comprising of  Lado Aliyu +3, who replaced the team’s Patron, Atta, Abdulrahman Mohammed +3 and  two Argentines, Facundo Ratamar +6 and Nicolas Recaite +6, took control of match in spite of the early setback to overcome El-Amin, who also lost in the finals of the last edition to Abuja Rubicon.  

El-Amin team comprising of Mohammed Babangida+3, Ibrahim Babangida, Ringa Genaro, Bauste Arastus fought back in the fourth chukker but their effort counted for nothing as goals from Recaite, Lado, Retamar and Abdulrahman propelled hard-fighting Kangimi to a resounding victory.

Speaking shortly after the presentation of prizes, star of the match, Policeman Lado Aliyu, described their victory as a welcome development saying it has been over ten years since they last won the famous FirstBank-sponsored trophy.

Also speaking, the Group Executive, Retail Banking, North; Shehu Aliyu said FirstBank is proud to associate with the Georgian Cup.

“We believe in legacies, and we build legacies across our relationships and that is what we at First Bank do with our sponsorships. The Georgian Cup which is the most prominent is also part of our legacies because we believe in legacy,” he said.

Aliyu also reiterated FirstBank’s commitment to sponsorship of the prestigious Georgian Cup.

“In doing this, we have been able to support the nurturing of and discovery of talents in most of the sports we are committed to,” he said.
