Health ministry trains 100 staff

The Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) has organised a five-day capacity building training for the preparation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) accrual general-purpose financial statements for 100 staff drawn from the finance and accounts departments.

IPSAS accrual is one of the reforms of the federal government for the uniformity of accounting reports.

The ministry’s Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr Ityohuma Isaaac Saawua, in his address, said it was necessary that the staff are properly trained in order to understand the reporting aspect of finance and accounts.

He said the training allows the staff of the finance and accounts department of the FMoH to know and have understanding of how to treat inventory of the government at the end of the financial year.

“These are the staff that will be going to all the newly established federal medical hospitals such as Federal Medical Centres in Wukari, Mubi, Daura, and Wase. They need adequate knowledge to establish the accounts and finance units for all these new federal hospitals,” he said.

An expert on public finance management, Abdullahi Busari, who was the lead facilitator for the training, said compliance with IPSAS comes with benefits for the FMoH and Nigeria as a whole.
