Institute seeks Media Trust’s support on corporate governance

The Institute of Directors Nigeria, (IoD) has sought the support of the Media Trust Group in strengthening governance and best practices across all sectors of the Nigerian economy. 

The Institute made this known yesterday while visiting the corporate head office of the Media Trust in Abuja.

The president and chairman of the Governing Council of the institute, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo represented by Alhaji Lamis Dikko made the request while updating on the Institute’s initiatives for the upcoming 2023 Annual Directors Conference.

The two-day conference, set for 16 to 17 November, will address the theme: “Driving Nigeria’s Economic Transformation and Diversification: The Role of Corporate Governance.

According to him, during the conference, IoD anticipates insightful discourse on deepening the conversation on the need for diversification of Nigeria’s economy.

He said, “The two-day event will be structured into four plenary sessions, each focusing on the sub-themes: How governance reforms in the Nigeria energy sector can help deliver a new Nigeria, significance of corporate governance in Nigeria’s digital transformation plus optimising demand-driven talents in Nigeria and agriculture, solid minerals and blue economy as drivers of national economic transformation.

“This year’s conference aims to attract industry leaders, fostering discussions critical to the conference’s focus. It is tailored to appeal to young directors, entrepreneurs, and millennials, offering them mentorship, networking opportunities, and a platform for expanding their knowledge in corporate governance.’’

Responding, the Group CEO, Media Trust Group, Malam Mounir Gwarzo while thanking the team for the courtesy visit, said the organisation will provide all the necessary support to the institute in terms of coverage in the forthcoming conference.

 “Companies that have qualitative governance principles will stand the taste of time,” he said.
