The police in Benue State have warned residents to desist from raising false alarms or participating in mob action over allegations of genital theft.
Spokeswoman of the command, SP Catherine Anene, in a statement, noted that the command had observed the increasing number of cases of false alarms of genital theft and the barbaric or ignorant behaviour of some youths in reaction to such alarms.
Anene said, “The most recent case being that of a pastor and his member which had no complainant, but the victims suffered injuries and the video is in social media.
“Over the years these cases have been reported but medical and physical examinations have shown that they are not true. Complainants have also come to realise that they have their genitals intact. This is obviously a mischievous plan to cause tension.”

She, therefore, advised traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents, teachers and other stakeholders to warn and educate their children and wards against such mob action that had caused people so much pain.
She further said, “The command also warns those people who take the law into their hands that the command will deal decisively with them in accordance with the law.”
