A renowned international Islamic scholar, Dr Zakir Naik has been in Sokoto as part of the 10th annual Usman Danfodiyo week’s celebration.
Danfodiyo week has been organised annually by the Sultanate Council to commemorate the life and death of the great Islamic reformer who was the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, Sheikh Usmanu bin Fordiyo.
Dr Naik who came along with his son, Fariq Naik arrived Sokoto on Monday.
He was expected to deliver lectures on “Alqur’an; The Global Necessity” and “The Concept of God in Major World Religions” today and Saturday in Sokoto and Kwara states respectively.

He would also deliver a lecture on Muslim’s choice: Da’wah or Destruction? at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Sunday.
His son would also deliver some lectures on different topics in these three places.
Daily Trust learnt that the scholar was personally invited by Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar to take part in the celebration.
The scholars were led in a courtesy visit to the monarch by the Chairman of the Sokoto Zakkat and Endowment Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki during which the Sultan decorated him in Hausa native attire.
