AUN, Adamawa government launch school girls’ enhancement initiative

The American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola in collaboration with the Adamawa State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has launched an initiative to enhance the potential of school girls. 

The Girls Education Enhancement Programme (GEEP) is geared towards helping school girls to succeed in school, increase their performance in mathematics, English and ICT as well as learn basic skills for self-reliance. 

Speaking at the launch of the pilot programme at Sanda Model Girls’ Primary and Secondary School in Yola on Monday, the AUN President, Dr. DeWayne Frazier said the university was committed to helping young women discover their potential to change their lives and contribute to the transformation of their communities.

Frazier said, “Firstly, educating girls empowers them to become economically independent individuals. By acquiring knowledge and skills, they can contribute to the growth and development of their communities and the nation at large.”

 In his speech, the state’s Commissioner for Education, Dr Umar Garba Pella, advised school girls to make education their number one priority, saying being educated can empower them to become self-reliant and active participants in nation-building.
