Saudi airlifts Kano conjoined twins for surgery in Riyadh

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the directive of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz on Monday airlifted Nigerian conjoined twins for surgery and separation in Riyadh.

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSARelief) will facilitate a complex surgical separation for the Nigerian conjoined twins, Hassana and Husaina Hassan Isa from Kano who are joined at the chest and share vital organs, making their separation a medically intricate and challenging procedure.

According to the Saudi embassy, the story has captured the hearts of millions worldwide, drawing attention to the urgent need for specialized medical attention as KSARelief in collaboration with a Saudi team of renowned surgeons and medical professionals, has embarked on a journey to provide these two kids with the opportunity for a brighter and healthier future.

“The conjoined twins will undergo thorough medical evaluation, and a team of experts including; pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses, have been assembled to oversee the entire process.

“The twin’s family will be accommodated in Riyadh, and a support system will be in place to provide comfort and assistance throughout the journey,” the embassy stated. 

They further added that the initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to humanitarian causes and its dedication to helping those in need, regardless of their nationality or background.

Daily Trust reports that Saudi Arabia has given attention to the healthcare needs of people in other countries, especially through the unique Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme. Since its inception in 1990, the programme has reviewed 133 sets of conjoined twins referred from 24 countries, and 59 sets of twins have been successfully separated by the Saudi programme.

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf was in the company of his Deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and other cabinet members who witnessed the airlift of the conjoined twins at the VIP section of the Aminu Kano International Airport. The governor wished them a successful surgery and quick recovery.
