FCT council begins move to improve revenue

The Abaji Area Council of the FCT has disclosed that it has taken measures to improve its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) structure to have enough resources for more projects and provide dividends of democracy.

The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, stated this when he unveiled the council’s new Indigenes Certificate in his office.

Alhaji Abubakar, who is also the National Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGO), commended the council’s Secretary, Alhaji Abdul-Rahaman Ndagi, for a job well done, saying it would enable the council to have a genuine indigenes’ database.

Alhaji Abdul-Rahaman explained that the introduction of the new indigenes’ certificate was not meant to witch-hunt anybody but rather to enhance the council’s IGR to augment what it received from the federation allocation.

He noted that the new certificate had special features for security purposes.

He, therefore, called on residents with the old indigenes’ certificate to come forward for renewal, promising that the process would be easy.

He added that adequate arrangements had been put in place to take care of the non-indigenous residents in Abaji with a new Certificate of Residency.
