Troops of the 159 Battalion Geidam, Yobe State, have ambushed and killed six insurgents, and recovered weapons including two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and a mobile phone after a fierce firefight.

The acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations of Sector 2, Captain Muhammad Shehu, said this in a statement on Thursday.

Shehu said the operation was conducted on Wednesday at Jororo village in Geidam LGA after receiving actionable intelligence.

He said the operation followed intelligence reports received on suspected terrorists’ presence at the Bajingo and Kurnawa villages of the local government.

In Kaduna State, troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army in the early hours of Tuesday arrested two alleged terrorist collaborators and ammunition suppliers in the Awon general area of Kachia LGA of the state.

The acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations 1 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, in a statement said the criminals were arrested in their various houses around Awon based on intelligence from a previously arrested collaborator who has been in custody.

He gave the names of the suspects as Shuaibu Lawan and Salihu Usman.

He listed items recovered from them to include one locally made AK-47 rifle, two Dane guns, eight rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges and five shells of expended cartridges.
