Ondo PDP, APC bicker over Akeredolu’s whereabouts

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State are at loggerheads over the whereabouts of  Governor Rotimi Akeredolu since the announcement of his return from a medical trip abroad.

Governor Akeredolu who had been on a medical vacation for three months in Germany returned early September, to the country amid pageantry from aides and political supporters.

Daily Trust gathered that since Akeredolu’s return, his presence has not been felt in the state, just as allegations continue to spread that he had been attending state functions at his private residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The situation forced the members of the opposition PDP to demand the whereabouts of the governor since he returned from his trip abroad with the hashtag #WhereIsAketi.

Following the development, the PDP youth wing in the state has vowed to stage a protest today (Monday) in the state capital, Akure, to demand the whereabouts of the governor.

The opposition PDP said that the continued absence of Akeredolu had stalled developmental projects and progress.

“#WhereIsAketi, We cannot continue this way. Enough Is Enough. We want to know the governor’s whereabouts….” a copy of the fliers branded with the PDP logo reads.

But in a swift reaction, the APC alleged that the PDP had mapped out plans to instigate the state capital, Akure, today with its protest.

In a statement released to reporters in Akure on Sunday, Alex Kalejaye, the publicity secretary of the APC, alleged that the essence of the PDP’s arrangement was to create a semblance of political instability in the peaceful state and also portray the ruling party in a bad light ahead of next year’s governorship election in the state.

He said, “It has come to our knowledge that some PDP chieftains who have started making huge contributions, in collaboration with some players within our fold, have finalised plans to destabilise the Sunshine State.”

Expressing appreciation for the understanding and prayers of the good people of the state for the governor, Kalejaye said, “We are very optimistic that our governor; your performing governor, will be in our midst in a matter of days.”
