UniAbuja denies gunmen invasion

The management of the University of Abuja has denied the reported attempts by some hoodlums suspected to be gunmen to abduct any of its students.

 The Acting Director of Information and Relations of the university, Dr Habib Yakoob, while reacting to a newspaper publication last Friday, said the report had caused significant distress and damage to the reputation of the institution.

 He said, ‘’Upon careful review and consultation with university authorities, safety unit, and some staff as well as students of the university over the report, there was no such incident or attempt by suspected gunmen to invade the institution.

 “As far as we are concerned, if there is anyone carrying guns on our campus, they are men of the Nigerian Police Force, campus security personnel, and other official security agencies.”

He added that students were also not living in fear as they had been going about their normal businesses, recalling that the university held its 27th convocation ceremony on Saturday which was massively attended by students, and parents, among others. 

City & Crime had last Friday, according to some students of the university who craved anonymity, reported that some persons suspected to be gunmen attempted to invade the university female campus at the permanent site to kidnap a student.

 The director said though the reporter was able to get the side of the institution, “due diligence was not done in the presentation of our facts.”
