Cleric urges Muslims to emulate pious predecessors

An Abuja-based Islamic scholar, Ustadh Shefiu Badamosi, has urged Muslims to emulate pious predecessors to achieve success in this world and the hereafter.

He made the call in Abuja during a seminar organised by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Organisation of Tadhamunul Muslimeen (OTM) with the theme “Between Reforming Individual and Guiding Society”.

The Chief Imam, The Regent Secondary School, Mabushi, Abuja, said the pious predecessors carried out their duties with sincerity of purpose and in line with the provisions of the Quran and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad.

He said there was no reason for Muslims to take alms begging as a means of sustaining livelihood when Abu Bakr, who succeeded Prophet Muhammad as the leader of the Muslims, was known as a successful trader who sold textiles.

“Muslims must not be beggars. You must have businesses to make ends meet and earn a living. This, however, requires organization of personal affairs,” he said.

He underscored the need for Muslims to appreciate the essence of sound ideology, purity of worship, good character, self-reformation, impactful life, good health, generosity, quickness in good acts and organised lifestyles.

Shaykh Tamim Yusuf, the Chief Administrative Officer/Deputy Chief Imam, Fou’ad Lababidi Islamic Academy, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, said the society could only be reformed through guidance, which he added was the essence of our existence.

He identified a lack of sincerity, unity among Islamic organisations, professionalism, and patience in dawah as impediments to the successful propagation of Islam in the country.
