Police arrest robbers, cultists in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command has paraded 12 cultists and 16 others for conspiracy, possession of illicit drugs and robbery.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ogundare Dare, explained that on September 18, two armed robbers attacked one Omotosho Sunday in his house in the Omisanjana area and collected his TVS motorcycle valued at N700,000.

He said, “On September 22, at about 0900 hours, one Ajayi Opeyemi, a serial burglar, was arrested in his criminal hideout by operatives of the command in Aramoko-Ekiti. He had burgled more than five houses and shops in Aramoko-Ekiti.

“When a search was conducted in the house of the suspect, 400 pairs of jean trousers, shirts, short knickers, jackets, face caps, underwear, women’s accessories, lingerie goods, assorted wines, provision and food stuff worth N3m were recovered as exhibits.”

The CP further said that following a tip-off on September 24, hoodlums shouting Eiye secret cult slogans and smoking hemp were arrested in their hideout, and that on September 27, members of the Buccaneer Confraternity were arrested in a hotel in Ado-Ekiti.
