NSK, Weststream Ponies, Mera Farms win big at 2023 Argungu polo tourney

September will remain a month to relish in the annals of the ancient kingdom of Kabi, as Argungu came alive for the finals of the Argungu Polo Tournament Fete held at NSK Polo Range & Resort in Argungu, Kebbi State.

Polo Royals report that it was the host team, the defending champions, NSK team from Argungu parading their Argentine import, Fernando and team Patron Nura Kangiwa that that gave the teeming home crowd plenty to celebrate for, after defeating the top running Heritage polo team to clinch the event’s biggest prize, the Governor’s Cup.

Other proud winners of the prestigious polo-cultural carnival saw Nigeria’s top-rated Bello Buba propelling Abdulkarim Jibril powered Westream Ponins to victory edging Mera Farms in a hotly contested four chukka final game, to clinch the highly revered Sultan Cup.

The race for the coveted Emir of Argungu Cup that was fiercely fought over two days of intense competition saw the first ever female player of the event in action as Mera Farms upsets pre-tournament favourites, Sokoto Rima team to clinch the glittering title.

Elated host and President of Nigeria Polo Federation (NPF), Nura Kangiwa congratulated all the winners and the runners- up for making the grand fiesta such a huge success while Nigerian Tourism, NIHOTOUR boss promised to make the next edition a weeklong carnival, to accommodate more teams and enhance its popularity across Africa and beyond.
