To ensure qualitative electricity supply to customers in its franchise areas, the management of Jos Electricity Distribution (DisCo) Plc on Wednesday contracted NOCACO, an indigenous cable manufacturing company, to produce cables that will be used on its network.

The business agreement was sealed penultimate Monday at the DisCo’s corporate headquarters when the management of the cable manufacturing company visited.

Speaking during the visitation, the Managing Director of Jos Electricity Distribution, Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed, said that he and his management team decided to engage NOCACO, based in Kaduna State, to prevent cases of low quality cables prevalent in the market.

Dr Friday Adakole Elijah, Head, Corporate Communications of the DisCo, in a statement, said that research conducted by the company revealed that in most cases low quality supply of electricity to customer premises was occasioned by poor quality of cables.

Engr Mohammed disclosed that NOCACO would produce customised cables with JEDC inscribed on them with the company’s unique colours for security purposes.

He said as soon as the Jos Electricity Distribution took possession of the customised cables, no customer would be allowed to use any other type of cable on its network or connect to their premises henceforth.

According to him, “To avoid substandard cables, specifications will be given to the cable company which has a good reputation for producing quality cables in the country. We will showcase the cables to our customers that they will be the only acceptable standard required in our network.”

In his remarks, the Chairman of NOCACO, Jamilu Zakari Muhammad, who flaunted works done by them for other DisCos, promised to meet the specified standards on schedule.
