Insurance bodies donate to IDPs

The Insurance Industry Consultative Committee (IICC) as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) provided free medical care and donated food items to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) at Kuchingoro, Abuja.

The outreach to the IDPs is part of the activities lined for up for the IICC’s annual conference 2017 which began in Abuja yesterday.

Mr. Sola Tinubu, the chairman Planning Committee of the IICC Annual Conference 2017, said during the outreach that the gesture was a way of touching the lives of the displaced persons.

He also said beyond the free medical care and food items that the IICC gave the IDPs, the group is considering a more enduring intervention by working with government to ensure the IDPs were resettled in permanent homes.

“We are also interrogating the other issues around the IDPs to see how they can be settled back into their original homes as opposed to being in camps perpetually,” he said.

City News reports that the IICC conducted HIV tests, de-warming exercises, malaria testing, sugar level testing and taught women safe delivery methods. They also thought the IDPs best hygiene practices among other things.
