What are you doing differently from other trainers/coaches?

We all have our unique ways of doing things. What makes me stand out is my ability to listen and ensure that I work with the client towards achieving their set goals or targets. Clients are yearning for an authentic connection and through listening, I am able to connect better with them. I am empathetic and in today’s world where empathy is slowly eroding, clients want to feel understood and heard. This allows them to open up, explore and embark on a transformative journey.

I value the impact of empathy, active listening and support. These practices make me an effective coach.

You’re one of the founders of Arewa Coaches Network, what is the network all about?

Yes, I have been part of the network from inception. Arewa Coaches Network is an association created to foster collaboration, bring about growth and tackle challenges faced in the industry; it’s a platform where like-minded people can connect, support each other and share their knowledge and expertise with people/organisations that need our products and services.

Do you think there should be more women/youth, especially from the North engaging in different business activities?

Absolutely, the opportunities out there are boundless. There are countless challenges faced in different sectors of the economy and with a little creativity, one can easily carve a niche for themselves. People are looking for great ideas to invest in or engage in. If more young people and women can look out for the demands out there and design products to solve some of the needs, the world will be their oyster.

Life is becoming more and more difficult. You find a good number of youth and women struggling, I believe some of them can make decent income. For some, it’ll mean breaking the cycle of poverty.

What do you think are the impediments for Arewa women in doing business?

When it comes to the idea of pushing business, Arewa women can be a bit laid back and I believe it is a mindset.

Lack of simple business skills that can help any business owner excel; for example accounting and bookkeeping. And being able to separate business and personal finance.

Another huge contributing factor is personal development. It’s hard to grow and sustain a business when you lack confidence and belief in your abilities. More women need to see the need to invest in their growth, it’ll go a long way.

What is your advice to Nigerian youths in general on finding prospects in businesses?

Never burn bridges, you never know when you’ll need that person, where your roads might meet again. Access your circle of influence, and find out who they know that you might also need to connect with.

Explore and make use of social media to find prospects. There are a number of strategies you can use to engage with your audience, and understand their needs.

Engage with people from other platforms who might have a similar vision to yours, or platforms that you feel have your kind of audience.

Improve your communication skills. Create your elevator speech; it’ll always come in handy.

Nurture your audience, and keep them close.
