Magu: N/Assembly urged to retrace steps

Senate President Bukola Saraki and his colleagues have been urged to retrace their steps in their insistence to have the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, sacked by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

A non-governmental organisation,  Concerned Nigerian Citizens (CNC), made the call in a statement yesterday in Abuja, which was signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Mohammed.

“The senators shouldn’t have given such order to the acting president, given the efforts he has so far put in place in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari,” Mohammed said.

He noted that Osinbajo had demonstrated  unwavering commitment, competence and resilience in piloting the affairs of Nigeria by dealing with various agitations and insecurity.

He therefore wondered why senators in the first place consistently rejected Magu as EFCC chairman.

“Why is the Senate thwarting the fight against corruption? That order to sack Magu is an indication that corruption is fighting back; it is wrong for the senators to call for the sack of Magu at this time,” he said.
