NCAC to train 3,700 youths in China

The Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has said the commission will train 3,700 Nigerian youths in China on skills acquisition.

Speaking during an award for his contributions on the areas of culture by the Nigeria-China Business Council, Runsewe said he was marvelled by the level of development in China during one of his visits, hence decided to take 100 Nigerian youths from every state of the country to learn some skills.

According to him, with the new artificial intelligence in the world, the world was no longer thinking of developing PhDs and MSC’s amongst other degrees because “the degrees we are accumulating in Nigeria, are not needed as 70 per cent of the degrees are for the challenges of yesterday.”

He said the challenges of the future do not need more than six months or three months’ capacity training for skills and getting the people properly impacted as the world was moving ahead with artificial intelligence.

He said it was unfortunate that in Nigeria, we still import toothpicks, adding that if Nigerian youths from different states were properly trained on different skills, they would be able to produce a variety of items in their states which could be used locally and also exported.

“Every state government would be part of this. The Chinese government has agreed to provide accommodation and transportation. For governors, instead of spending millions of naira and yet no results and impact, with this, we will have great impact,” he said.
