Police arrest 10 over killing of Ekiti varsity nursing student

Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with the killing of a 200-level nursing student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Miss Atanda Modupe Deborah.

The command spokesman, DSP Sunday Abutu, told newsmen on Thursday that the suspects were in custody undergoing investigation.

Abutu said the body of the late Deborah, was found in a shallow grave at a distance of about 30 meters behind the Nursing Department lecture hall.

“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ogundare Dare, vows that the command will do everything possible to unearth the identity of the perpetrators and ensure they are made to face the full wrath of the law.

Dare, urged anyone with useful information concerning the ugly incident to report same at Oye divisional office.

Deborah, was reported missing on Monday after she went to read in the night and did not return to her room.

Information gathered from multiple sources said her roommates became worried when she did not return and raised the alarm.

The school authorities, upon this development on Wednesday, through the Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, declared the student missing.

Ibrahim later announced the painful killing of the student, promising to bring the culprits to book.

“FUOYE authorities appeal to students and all other stakeholders to remain calm as they condole with the deceased family and the community,” he said.

The school’s students union President, Ajayi Dotun Emmanuel, and the PRO, Akuraku Kofoworola Elizabeth, on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressed sadness over the incident.

They debunked the rumour that the body parts were mutilated, urging security agencies to investigate the matter properly and bring the culprits to book.
