Police arrest 8 over alleged ‘witches invasion’ in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has said that it arrested eight people for inciting disturbance over recurring incidents of hate speeches with life-threatening consequences being targeted at innocent passersby and strangers in some parts of the state.

The command’s Public Relations officer, SP, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this to newsmen in the state.

He urged residents of the state to ignore and consider as mere unfounded rumours being circulated that “Some Witches have stormed Kano Metropolis, moving from one house to another sucking the blood of innocent people”.

Kiyawa revealed that the allegations has been investigated by the police and is found to be an unsubstantiated rumour, fabricated with the sole aim of promoting haters of strangers in Kano “and by extension inciting public disturbances, creating fear, chaos, and disrupting the peace being enjoyed in the State.”

The police pointed out that the reports were becoming more rampant especially from the beginning of September to date.

He warns members of the public to stay clear of such rumors as investigations have been instituted to unveil fabricators of the rumour that have so far led to attacks on innocent citizens within Kano Metropolis.

“The commissioner of police Muhammad Hussaini Gumel warned promoters of the rumour to desist from the act while also caution residents against jungle justice as whoever is arrested will be prosecuted according to the law,” Kiyawa added.
