Accept tribunal judgement, CSOs tell politicians

Two Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Concerned Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG) and the Northern Youth Initiative for Peace and Good Governance (NYIPGG), have urged political actors in the 2023 general elections to allow the presidential election petition tribunal to perform its statutory role.

They made the appeal on the sidelines of a walk, which kicked off from the Ministry of Justice to the Eagles Square in Abuja.

The peaceful procession was carried out to congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on “a successful and fruitful 100days in office”.

Speaking, Dotun Omoleye, national coordinator, CNYGG, said: “People came out February 25 to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and surely we believe we have won the election, and it’s people’s right to approach the judiciary to test the election. And definitely we are looking forward to a positive response from the judiciary.

“However the judgment comes, it should be celebrated in a very modest way. And whoever feels the judgement doesn’t favour them should manage the situation and prepare for the next four years to try again.

“The field is open for everybody to aspire. Talk to people and what you can do and when they believe in they vote for you. So it’s not a desperate game, but about preparation and effective participation. The judiciary is the end of the election and whatever comes out, people should just abide by it.”

Alh. Umur Farouk Lawal, president of NYIPGG, said: “Those who won’t be comfortable with the appeal court Judgement, which we believe will favour President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, can go to the supreme court. We believe that even if they go to the supreme court, the APC will be declared winner again.”
