How Ramos rejected Saudi’s N19.7bn yearly offer and settled for N987m

Former Spain defender, Sergio Ramos, rejected a huge contract offer from Saudi Arabia before opting to join Sevilla on a free transfer.

Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad had offered the Real Madrid legend an incredible €20 million per year (equivalent to N19,740,000,000 billion), according to Mundo Deportivo.

He could have played alongside former real teammate Karim Benzema, as well as N’Golo Kante and Fabinho, at the Jeddah-based club.

The Turkish side have since agreed to sign Davinson Sanchez from Tottenham, for a fee of €10m.

Ramos, meanwhile, decided to return to his former club Sevilla for an annual salary of just €1m (equivalent to N987,000,000)

Ramos becomes Sevilla’s ninth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Loic Bade (€12m), Dodi Lukebakio (€10m), Djibril Sow (€10m), Mariano Diaz (free), Orjan Nyland (free), Adria Pedrosa (free), Rafael Romero (free) and Boubakary Soumare (loan).

He left Sevilla at the age of 19 to join Real Madrid for a then-record fee for a Spanish defender.

In 2021, Ramos signed for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but had been without a club since his contract with the French champions ran out in June.
