Red Star Foundation donates to IDPs in Adamawa

On Thursday, June 22, a non-profit organization, the Red Star Foundation, delivered food and non-food items to internally displaced persons in Malkohi camp, which is located 40 kilometres from Yola, the Adamawa state capital. The delivery consisted of 30 bags of grains including rice, beans, maize, guinea corns; 10 bags of sugar and salt; 24 cartons of noodles; 5 gallons of vegetable oil; beverages and 8 boxes of clothes. While presenting the materials in Yola, Aminu Dangana, the leader of delegation and director, Red Star Express Plc, disclosed that the company, through its foundation, had come from Lagos to identify with the IDPs as a concrete demonstration of its corporate social responsibility. He pledged that it would mobilize other corporate citizens to assist the government in supporting the IDPs.

According to Tonye Preghafi, divisional managing director of Red Star Freight and president of the Red Star Foundation, the foundation’s outreach to IDPs is its “way of giving back to the society”. He disclosed that through the foundation’s ‘I Care Project’, the staff of the company and their friends are involved in social programmes among which are assistance for IDPs and a scholarship scheme for indigent students in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano. Abdullahi Yakubu, an official of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), who received the donation in the presence of the IDPs, thanked the company for the gesture and said that the items would be put to judicious use.
