A non-governmental organiSation, Choicesteps Empowerment Initiative has initiated a programme tagged ‘Raising Boys to Men’ aimed at building young boys into responsible, well-balanced and successful adults.
Speaking with the convener during the maiden edition held in Abuja, Mrs Kayo Matilukuro, she revealed that there was a need to focus on the balanced development of the boy child so as to have a reliable, responsible and resilient men from today’s boys.
Matilukuro said: “Boys to men is an inspiration from what we see in society. The girl child has been so taken care of and empowered and educated with so much attention on them. We have built independent women that can compete at all levels. We see boys at the leadership positions.
“We felt we need to empower the boys so we can have a balanced society so that homes can be solid. They boys have emotions but we tell them men don’t cry, that men do not express emotions, in the process, they fall into social vices, like drug abuse, cultism, sexual abuse etc to cover up their pains. We want to prepare a better, more responsible and resilient generation of men. We want the boys to learn basic character blocks that will help them become better men, husbands and fathers in the future,” she said.
