2 Kings 6:24-25, “And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria. [25] And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.” (Read 2Kings 6:24-7:20).
A siege is the act or process of surrounding and attacking a fortified place in such a way as to isolate it from help and supplies, for the purpose of lessening the resistance of the defenders and thereby making capture possible.
Spiritually speaking, a siege is a situation in which an individual is surrounded by a stronger physical or spiritual power, for the purpose of capturing or tormenting him or her.
An individual, family, tribe, nation or even nations or even the world can be under a siege as we are witnessing now in many parts of the world. A siege can happen suddenly or gradually.

1. A siege is characterised by severe restrictions of movement, trade or commercial activity. The world has just witnessed a siege occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is called lockdown. Local and international movements were severely limited and many countries shut their borders. Even churches were badly hit too.
2. In a siege you are isolated from supply. You experience dwindling or diminishing resources or income that forces you to make hard choices. As a result of the last pandemic, international and domestic travels took a hit. Airlines took a hit. Many businesses are still shut down and may never recover. Many people were rendered jobless and those who were still employed had to take a pay cut. Many are now making do with a meal or two a day because of financial hardship.
3. You are under a siege when you are cut off from your helpers or your helpers are helpless. The enemy does this to make life difficult for you.
The aim of a siege is to weaken your resistance so that you can be defeated and captured. You are squeezed into a tight corner to break you down so that you can surrender to the enemy. In these moments, some have lost their lives and others have resorted to doing things they would not normally do in order to stay alive. In this siege of Samaria, people started eating their children in turns in a desperate attempt to stay alive.
The Lord Jesus will terminate your siege right now!
2Kings 7:1, “1Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.”
Israel had been under siege for a long time. Everything was scarce, from food to other basic necessities. All hope was lost.
Then came a prophet with a crazy prophecy which some found difficult to believe.
Four desperate lepers decided to step out in faith. 2Kings 7:3-7, “And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? [4] If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die. [5] And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. [6] For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. [7] Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.”
These desperate lepers decided to make a move. How desperate are you? God moved supernaturally by amplifying the sound of the steps of the lepers and chased the Syrian army away. They left all their supplies and fled. And it was much, very much!
