The hunter went with his colleagues and the local vigilante to comb the forest around Igarra and neighbouring communities with a view to rescuing kidnapped victims and arresting the kidnappers when the incident happened.

Recall that five persons were last week kidnapped along Farm Road in Igarra and one of them was released after paying an undisclosed ransom.

A member of the vigilante group told journalists in confidence that the incident happened on Tuesday while one of the kidnappers was arrested yesterday (Wednesday).

Narrating the incident, he said “During the bush combing, we divided ourselves into two groups and went in different directions but unknown to us that the kidnappers had sighted us and while we were trying to take position, they shot the hunter dead and ran away.

He said they later got to their camp where they recovered some items including a phone without battery, sim card and cooked and raw food.

He explained that the kidnapper who disguised as passengers waiting for a commercial vehicle along the Igarra-Ibillo road was caught and handed over to the police.

The state command’s spokesperson could not be reached on phone as at the time of filing the report.
