A 30-year-old man, Tum Joseph, was on Tuesday arraigned in a customary court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for allegedly stealing a mattress and clothes from his mother.
The prosecutor, Insp Esther Bishen, told the court that the defendant’s mother, Bridget, of Ungwan Fari, Kafanchan, reported on July 7, that while she was nursing her sick husband in the hospital she received information that her son had stolen items from the house.
She listed the items stolen to include a mattress, two containers of herbicide, wrappers and some of her husband’s clothes, and added that the defendant usually insulted and called her names.
The police told the court that the mattress was recovered from the defendant during investigation.
Insp Esther noted that the crimes contravened Sections 378, 76 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code.
When the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Mr George Gwani, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 and a surety in like sum who must be his uncle and adjourned the case to September 5. (NAN)
