The Borno State government has rolled out a postgraduate scholarship programme for indigent students studying science courses to enhance and bridge human capital gap in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Bala Isa, told newsmen in Maiduguri at weekend that the current administration aimed to ensure that the state has adequate human capital before the commencement of oil exploitation in the state.
He said that it aimed to support the postgraduate in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
He added that the scholarships programme was in line with the 25 development plan and 10 years transformation strategy initiative of the Borno state government.

“This initiative is designed to enhance and bridge the existing human capacity gap in the state. The purpose of this scholarship programme is to ensure we build and train our youths that will fit in for any opportunity in the nearest future. Be it in oil exploitation and other opportunities. Basically, that is why we are focusing on sciences related courses,”he said.
Bala explained that beneficiaries must have gained admission to study for masters doctoral degrees in Nigeria, Europe, Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa or in India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan, or the United Kingdom.
“Therefore, candidates with MSc or Ph.D. admission in some selected universities in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the United Kingdom are to apply through the Borno State Scholarship Board website,” Bala said.
He added that the scholarship board’s website had been opened to receive applications between August 4 and October 30, 2023.
