The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Fika LGA of Yobe State, Hajiya Halima Kyari Joda, in collaboration with security agencies, Hisbah and traditional leaders, have destroyed 22 cartons of alcohol, as well as arrested 79 persons involved in illicit dance entertainment, popularly known as “Gidan Gala”.
The operation, carried out on Monday in Ngalda village, was led by the council chairman.
The spokesman of the chairman, Abubakar Ayuba Idris, who confirmed this, said Ngalda town was well known for business and summer farming, and that the residents expressed their concern about how the situation was ruining their children’s education.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe State, Adamu Garba, said the joint operation made up of NSCDC, JTF, DSS, NPF, Hisba, and vigilantes led by the council chairman confiscated cartons of alcohol and banned Gala centres in Ngalda.
He said that during the operation, 92 suspects of various crimes such as selling of alcohol, selling and smoking of Indian herp, selling of knives, bows and arrows, etc. were arrested (45 men and 47 women).
