Uzodinma has gone AWOL as Imo burns – Imo PDP

The People Democratic Party (PDP) has described as unfortunate the inability of the Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to stem the rising insecurity in the state.

The spokesman for the Imo Pdp 2023 Gubernatorial campaign, Barr. Gozie Nwachukwu, disclosed this during a press conference held in Owerri, the state capital.

Nwachukwu, who was flanked by the Director, New media, Imo PDP 2023 gubernatorial campaign organization , Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, said the governor has been missing in action while insecurity remains a concern.

He alleged that the governor has absent since the swearing in of President Bola Tinubu.

He added that instead, non-state actors had taken over the constitutional roles of the security agencies in Imo and that this may have contributed to the terrible security situation.

“In the last seven days, parts of Imo state … bullets rained in Imo. We are seriously worried,” said the party’s publicist.

He then called on Tinubu to set up an independent investigation into the wanton killings in the state.

“That’s why we are calling on the President and the Commander-in-Chief to please urgently set up an independent, discreet fact-finding team devoid of any contribution by Hope Uzodinma and his cohorts.”

A few days ago, gunmen burnt part of the Amaraku market in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo.

The hoodlums also razed vehicles and goods belonging to traders, mostly women, and fled to another community, Obolo, also in the LGA, where they burnt some commercial vehicles.

A non-government organisation, The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, Intersociety, claimed that “no fewer than 1600 unarmed citizens of Imo State were been killed while 300 others disappeared without trace between January 2021 and May 2023, a period of 29 months”.
