Villagers block Benue highway to protest insecurity

Villagers on Tuesday blocked the Makurdi-Aliade highway at Ikpayongo community in Gwer East Local Government Area to protest the growing insecurity in their domain.

 Our correspondent reports that the over eight-year-old rivalry between the two kindreds – Mbakume (Mbaivur) and Mbasombo in Ikpayongo  – which reopened last week, had defied all known measures taken to resolve the matter, thereby escalating insecurity in the area.

 Women Leader of Mbakough Kindred, Mrs Veronica Orbunde, explained that they (protesters) defied the heavy rain for the peaceful protest in order to draw government’s attention to the kidnap of three of their husbands in the aftermath of the crisis in the area.
