Police recover 10 guns from cult gangs in Lagos

Effort to reduce cultism to a manageable level within Lagos metropolis paid off with the arrest of four members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in Ijanikin and the recovery of about 10 guns from their hideouts.

The arrest and recovery followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to the Divisional Police Officer to fish out those wreaking havoc in the area.

Following the directive, detectives from Ijanikin Division, along with those from the Commissioner of Police Team 1, raided areas considered the strongholds of the gangs in the Otto and Ile-Oba areas.

It was learnt that one of the suspects who was arrested a few days before the raid gave the police team the names and locations of their point men.

“The raid would continue until all the point men of the different cult groups have been arrested.

“Most of the leaders of the gangs have fled the areas since the raid started,” a police source said.

Calls and text messages sent to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were neither answered nor replied.
