NPAN, Radda congratulate Anaba, task NGE on ethics

The Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN) has congratulated the Vanguard Editor, Mr Eze Anaba, on his emergence as President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

Anaba emerged as NGE president during the Guild’s 2023 National Biennial Convention held in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Friday. He polled 250 votes to defeat his only opponent, Bolaji Adebiyi, who scored 81 votes. He succeeds Mustapha Isah of Silverbird Group.

President of NPAN, Kabiru A. Yusuf, in a statement, yesterday, said the votes garnered by Anaba in the hotly contested election underscored the implicit confidence his colleagues had in his capacity to provide necessary leadership and direction for the esteemed profession of journalism, and journalists in the country.

“We are in no doubt that you are in sync with these expectations and well-equipped to tackle the challenges,” he said.

Yusuf said NPAN would look forward to working with the NGE in raising the bar of the journalism profession, with emphasis on professionalism and ethical standard, among others.

Also, the governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has congratulated Anaba.

Governor Radda, in a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said he was delighted that the election was rancour-free and devoid of unnecessary bitterness.

He said the election where the loser ‘graciously’ conceded defeat, offered great lessons in democratic leadership.

He advised Anaba to carry everyone along as he steers the affairs of the foremost media association uniting Nigerian editors.

Radda disclosed that Katsina State would look forward to working with the NGE with a view to entrenching national unity and accelerating the country’s socio-economic development.

Other newly-elected officials of the NGE include Husseina Bangshika as deputy president; Sheddy Ozoene as vice president (East); Kabiru Alabi Garba, vice president (West); and Umoru Ibrahim, vice president (North).

Others are Iyobosa Uwugiaren (general secretary), Gabriel Folajimi (assistant secretary), Charles Kalu (social/publicity secretary), and Steve Osuji (treasurer).
