Prioritise appointment of FCT natives in your cabinet, Tinubu urged

The Commissioner for Public Complaints Commission (PCC) representing the FCT, Mr Ezekiel Dalhatu Musa, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the appointment of the natives of the FCT into his cabinet.

Musa, who was speaking at a quarterly press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, said the call followed a series of petitions/complaints the commission had received through various stakeholders and groups in the territory.

He said since the Court of Appeal in January, 2018, ruled that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should appoint a native of the FCT, the natives had consistently advocated and appealed to the conscience of any incoming president to appoint natives into their cabinet.

He noted that despite that the natives were no longer engaged in a debate over whether the FCT was a state, the Supreme Court had also through a landmark judgement unequivocally settled the contentious issue surrounding Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He further said that the natives hoped that President Tinubu, based on his “Renewed Hope” agenda, would recognise the abundance of highly qualified FCT natives for his cabinet.
