Ex-Super Eagles stars honoured as Gboko Pros lift Orkuma Unity Cup

Three members of the 2023 AFCON winning squad, Sunday Mbah, Juwon Oshaniwa, and Fengor Ogunde have been honoured by organisers of the just concluded Moses Orkuma Unity Football tournament for their immense contributions to Nigerian football.

The former African champions were honoured with the award of ‘Soccer Ambassadors of our time’ at the well-attended finals.

In the final match played on Sunday at the famous JS Tarka Stadium, Gboko Professionals inspired by experienced players like David Tyavkase, Tony Shimaga, Bernard Bulbwa, Otepka Eneji, Stanley Ogambor, Yanmar Moses and Tor Gyenkwe laboured to a 2-1 win over debutants, Solution Ground Aliade to lift the coveted trophy.

Speaking at the occasion, former Nigerian junior international and sponsor of the tournament, Moses Orkuma, expressed his appreciation to everyone for supporting his initiative.

“My profound gratitude goes firstly to God Almighty for His mercies and for making this 6th edition a huge success.

“I appreciate everyone, especially my friends, Sunday Mbah, Juwon Oshaniwa, Tony Okpotu, Fegor Ogude and Babangida Shittu who came from distant places to support and indeed make the occasion colourful.

“To all other dignitaries I cannot immediately mention, I appreciate and say a big thank you,” said the Al-Tadamon SC of Kuwait player.

At the end of the competition, Gboko Pros took home a giant trophy, a set of jerseys, and N200,000, the runners-up, Solution Ground Aliade, received a set of jerseys and N150,000, third-placed Purity Empire got N100,000 while last year’s finalists, St Michael Ameladu who finished in fourth place took home a consolation of N30,000.
