4 cultists arrested after abducting woman

The police, in collaboration with vigilantes, have arrested four suspected cultists who allegedly abducted a woman, Glory Aneite, on Agbonwonmba Street, off Saint Stephen’s Street, Murtala Muhammed Way, Benin City, Edo State.

The police spokesman in the state, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, gave the names of the suspects as Agbohense Junior (15), Egbeyor Daniel (17), Friday Osazuwa (20) and James Endurance (19).

SP Chidi explained that the Esigie Division, Benin, received an intelligence report on June 4, that hoodlums suspected to be cultists were shooting sporadically on Agbonwonmba Street and in the process abducted a young woman.

He said, “The police, in collaboration with vigilantes, immediately moved to the scene and rescued the victim unhurt and arrested four suspects, while others escaped. One locally made cut-to-size pistol and one expended cartridge were recovered from them.”

He noted that the suspects confessed being members of the Eiye cult group and that effort was on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
