The newly sworn-in governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu has warned that he will descend heavily on criminals in the state if they do not immediately seek amnesty.
In his inaugural speech at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar Otu stressed that his government will not condone them in any form or manner.
Otu said he wants to reposition the state and make it alluring once more, such that citizens and investors can have renewed confidence and peace, emphasising that security will be uppermost in his government.
“You have to vacate any part of Cross River State immediately or seek amnesty, otherwise it will not be palatable. We will make sure that we restore confidence in security architecture by putting in place necessary infrastructures to enhance it,” he said.
He also emphasised that his government will take steps towards revisiting what he described as obnoxious judgment, which ceded the Bakassi peninsula to the Cameroon Republic.

The former lawmaker said his government has already taken steps to restore investors’ confidence, adding that taxes would be reviewed and made friendly to enable investors’ return.
Speaking earlier, the former governor, Ben Ayade said he was a magician to have succeeded much in spite of the least federal allocation in eight years. Ayade claimed he was able to survive due to divine ingenuity, knowing that the state received the least federal allocation, sometimes N800m.
