‘Maltreatment’: Yewa indigenes Storm Ogun Governor’s office

Residents of Yewaland in Ogun West Senatorial district, Ogun State, on Wednesday stormed Governor Dapo Abiodun’s office in protest against deplorable conditions of infrastructure in the region.

The aggrieved residents from all the five Local Government Areas of the region, Ipokia, Imeko-Afon, Yewa North, Yewa South and Ado-Odo/Ota, expressed frustration over alleged marginalisation of region in the developmental projects.

The protesters under the aegis of Yewa Defender Organization carried different banners which stated demands and challenges of each of the LGs.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Ayeteru Akeem, lamented that Yewaland, the only region that has not produced governor since the establishment of the state, has been underdeveloped in terms of infrastructure and other developmental projects.

Akeem, a retired Immigration officer, said Ogun West, despite being the industrial hub and government’s cash cow, has been denied basic amenities like road, hospital and educational institutions.

He also expressed concerned over the erratic power supply and incessant Farmers-herders which have claimed many lives in the region.

“They are maltreating us. They’re treating us as if we are not from Ogun State,” he lamented.

The retired Immigration officer noted that despite the challenges facing the region, the electorate voted for Abiodun’s re-election overwhelmingly during the March 18 governorship poll.

He called on the governor to reciprocate the gesture by fixing the infrastructural decay in the district during his second term.

“Yewa delivered all five LGs for Governor Dapo Abiodun during the last election. Even in Ogun East where he hails from, how many council did he win? We must been compensated for this victory,” he said.
