Reps call for sanctions against defaulting DISCOs

The House of Representatives has called on the federal government through the Ministry of Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to penalise the erring Discos for failure to remit payment by either freezing their bank accounts or reprimanded rather than suffering the masses that have been diligently paying for their power supply.

This followed the adoption of a motion on matters of urgent public importance moved by Unyime Idem at plenary on Tuesday.

Presenting the motion, the lawmaker stated that frequent and incessant interruption of power supply across the nation in the past weeks, has been on the increase, disrupting businesses and lives of Nigerians who are equally burdened with several tariff increments.
