Ortom constructs 200km rural roads in 8 years

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has constructed over 200 kilometres of rural roads across many communities in the state within the eight-year lifespan of his administration.

The Commissioner for Rural Development, Engr Victor Ukaha, who disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent, said surface dressing was used to construct the roads instead of laterite which often didn’t last long.

Ukaha explained that, “In terms of rural roads, this ministry has done above 200km in the life of this administration. Some have been completed while others are ongoing. There is a complete spreadsheet that tells the number we have awarded, where and when they were awarded, including the contractors executing them.

“Laterite roads are bound not to last long, and in my opinion, it amounts to throwing away money. So, I requested the State Executive Council (SEC) to also do surface dressing, which was approved.

“One of such roads is the 29 plus kilometres in Gbajimgba to almost reaching the border of with Nasarawa State. Because of that road, someone can actually live in Nasarawa and school in Gbajimgba, or even come to hospital or attend market in Gbajimgba.
