Natives laud FCT minister over approval of Kuchi, Poroko layouts

The indigenous people of Kuchi and Poroko communities in Karu Chiefdom in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the FCT have commended the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, for keeping to his promise in approving layouts for development in the two communities.

The Chairman of Karu Gbagyi Development Association (KAGBADA), Dangana D. Jimiko, and the Madaki of Karu, Chief Bawa D. Dawogbei, gave the commendation at a joint press conference on Tuesday.

They said the natives were appreciative of the minister in fulfilling a promise he made in 2015 to the indigenous people of Karu and Kuchi to decongest their communities with expansion.

They noted that after vigorous processes, consultations and verifications over the years, the minister finally approved land to the original inhabitants of Karu and Poroko and other Nigerians, including the Hausa/Fulani, Koro, Jaba, Tiv, Yoruba and Igbo, that had been living peacefully in the areas.

They, however, berated some persons claiming to be indigenous stakeholders of Karu, who they said were settlers making inciting comments among the good people of Karu Chiefdom.

They noted that the utterances by such persons who were parading themselves as stakeholders of Karu was to cause confusion and disharmony among the people of Karu.

Mr Jimiko said, “In fact, it is the same set of persons that are the foot soldiers of the deposed old kingmakers that were served letters and relieved of their positions in 2017 by the late Sa’Karuyi, Chief Emmanuel Kyauta Yepwi.

“We are still in the mourning period of our late Chief Yepwi whose dream was for the actualisation of the Karu Kuchi/Poroko expansion layout.”

They, therefore, assured the minister that as soon as the allocation was ready and handed over to them through Senator Philip Aduda, a committee set up by the late Sa’Karuyi that comprised of district heads, village heads, madaki and ward heads, as well as youths, would ensure it was judiciously utilised.
